Description Bold Stripes and Intense Blue Tones Our Philippine Blue Zebra Angelfish are one of our most sought after varieties and can be difficult to keep in stock. Combining the iridescent blue coloring of the Philippine Blue gene with the bold striping of the Zebra gene, these fish display three or more distinct black stripes compared to the two stripes typical of the Blue Silver, giving them a more dramatic and striking appearance. The Zebra gene also adds a beautiful striation pattern throughout the fins, a distinctive feature not seen in other Philippine Blue varieties. As these fish mature their blue tones develop and intensify, with fully adult fish displaying the most vivid and saturated blue coloring. How Blue Zebra Compares to Blue Silver Blue Zebra and Blue Silver Angelfish share the same Philippine Blue gene and overall coloration, making them visually similar at first glance. The key difference lies in the Zebra gene. Blue Silvers typically display two black body stripes while Blue Zebras carry three or more stripes along with the characteristic fin striation pattern that the Zebra gene produces. Beyond the striping the two varieties are essentially identical in terms of coloration and development. Genetics Philippine Blue Zebra Angelfish carry a double dose of the Philippine Blue gene alongside either one or two copies of the Zebra gene, expressed genetically as Z/ pb/pb or Z/Z pb/pb. The Z/ notation indicates one copy of the Zebra gene alongside the wild type allele, while Z/Z indicates a double dose which can result in additional stripes and more pronounced fin striation. Offspring from Blue Zebra parents may produce both Blue Zebras and Blue Silvers depending on whether offspring inherit one, two, or no copies of the Zebra gene. Fin Types Available in both Standard and Veil fin types when in stock.
