Hoyt’ was found as a mutation on. ‘Hoyt Parent’ has the same great fall color as ‘W.B. Hoyt’ of yellows, oranges, and reds. except a tall more open habit to 8-10 ft in 10 years. While this is a beautiful graft of a native vine maple from Portland, Oregon, our true plant geekiness comes out with this tree. We have noticed certain broom mutations occurring consistently on certain cultivar selections. We believe that genetics of the parent tree plays a big role in producing a broom mutation.
